RAFFLE OF QUEEN-SIZE QUILT –Anyone looking at old quilt patterns would be justified in thinking that quilters were the first abstract artists. While a Tulip Block does indeed resemble a tulip and the Tall Pine Tree Block brings to mind a pine tree, it is a bit of a stretch to find a Practical Orchard in what is basically a nine-patch block with four triangles at the center.
This year's quilt in shades of pink and sage green does not immediately call to mind a snowball. Look beyond the colors and you will find a snowball in the octagonal shape of the blocks and in the quilting of the large print blocks. The nine-patch blocks add a nice variation.
Donna Braas donated the quilt top which she purchased several years ago at a fundraiser for the animal shelter in Brown County. She, Toni Page, Joann Garraux and Dolores Francis began quilting in January and were joined later by Dee Vargas. Julia Crawley always does a beautiful job of sewing the binding on for us, and the final stitching was completed August 29th. Much love and prayer goes into the quilt in hopes that whoever wins it will be blessed and enjoy it for years. (Note: The Quilt Raffle is a charity-gaming exempt event approved by the Indiana Gaming Commission. No one under 18 years of age may purchase or sell a ticket, nor win the raffle prize or accept it on behalf of another person. House rules for the raffle will be posted at the bazaar.)
CRAFTS: Our professional artisans and home hobbyists hone their skills and work hard to provide us with a wide array of unique products, including wood crafts, stained glass, wreaths, knitted products, decorated night shirts, and other creative items.
STAINED GLASS: There will be new stained-glass pieces for this year’s sale. As always, they are unique in design and craftsmanship.
WOOD CRAFTS: Beautifully crafted wood designs including religious items, deer, eagles, wolves, hummingbirds, and puzzles.
WREATHS: Wreaths come in a variety of designs, colors and holiday themes. These sell out quickly so come early to pick the best one to fit your holiday décor. For the 2003 Bazaar, we have new designs and an assortment of smaller wreaths for home interiors.
ST. AGNES YOUTH GROUP BOUTIQUE:Selling gently used, upscale items, including vintage and formal clothing, shoes, and accessories, jewelry, books, games, signage, sports equipment, small appliances, glassware and small furniture. Help our young people earn funds for their projects and travels – faith formation activities, mission and community outreach services to help the poor, and upkeep of Youth Barn. ST. AGNES PARISHIONERS ARE INVITED TO DONATE items for sale at the bazaar, especially hand-made items and crafts, themed gift baskets or decorated trees, cookies and baked goods, home-canned food, and boutique items for the Youth Group. Details of when and where items will be collected will be announced in the parish bulletin. Contact Cathy Shehan at [email protected] or call or text (812) 390-8308 if you would like to volunteer or if you have any questions about the bazaar.
